was born in Johannesburg and studied Fine Art at the University of the Witwatersrand where she received her BAFA and MAFA. She has worked as a free lance graphic and web designer as well as an arts journalist. She was the resident web designer and news editor at the Fordsburg Artist Studios in Johannesburg and has lectured at the University of the Witwatersrand, Parktown College and Vega School of Brand Communication.
Currently based in Grahamstown, Western is the Lecturer of Digital Arts in the Fine Art Department of Rhodes University. Western's artistic practice is multidisciplinary and often collaborative with a strong focus on digital arts, site specific installation and performance. Her research interests focus predominantly on mythology, story making, popular culture, satire and virtual media.
