Africa Remix Fringe Interview (2007)
During the Africa Remix Exhibition at Johannesburg Art Gallery, an interesting collection of plants in 'African' style pots appeared as décor in the gallery toilets.
To examine the presence of these plants, I invited a number of people into the female toilets to conduct an interview with the chief curator plant regarding this apparent fringe exhibition.
The interview explored such concerns - from the plants' perspective - as marginalisation and speciesism evident in the main exhibition and the craft/art debate which had led to this reactionary fringe exhibition.
I later discovered that bananas were handed out to the audience at the Swedish leg of this exhibition but was unable to secure an interview as the bananas were cruelly masticated by the audience.
